The Flow of Our School Day


Communication  Focus  Recall
Our Classroom Routines
Moderate/Severely Handicapped SDC Class
Ms. Taylor, Rm. 8530, Silverado High School

As teaching staff interacts with students, we talk about the protocol for each activity, communicating with the students to focus and recall directions.
Classroom rules are observed.Students are frequently reminded to ask permission to get up out of desk, to comment or speak to the class at large, to follow teacher direction immediately, and to always practices courtesy.
These classroom guidelines are flexible and may be adjusted by the teacher.

Period 1 

Students copy Agenda from the board until 8:00 am, and prepare for class (sharpening pencils, etc.)

Breakfast

Both aides, teacher escort the students to pick up breakfast at the student cafe, returning to eat at desks in the classroom.
Aides observe students for courtesy during meal, reminding students to clean desk, clean hands. 
Teacher goes over agenda, plan for the day and topic of the day.

Team 2 Teacher leads in ELA teaching focus at the whiteboard.

Team 1  Aide 1 teaches Edmark at Station 1. If Team  1 finishes before bell, they may work with puzzles.

Aide 2 helps with Team 2 work or classroom organization (run copies, prepare  material, prepares art projects, etc.)

Period 2

Teacher prep period. 
Students escorted and monitored by both aides at Modified PE.

Period 3

Arithmetic/Math instruction.

Team 1 Aide 1 instructs in arithmetic concepts at Station 1. If Team 1 finishes before the bell, they may color a color page.

Team 2 Teacher introduces math concept and method. Aide 2 takes designated students to Station 2 to work on mathwork; teacher works with remaining Team 2 at whiteboard.

Period 4

Reading

Teacher introduces reading lesson of the day for class from whiteboard (all class story or informational passage.) 

Team 1 works at Station 1 with Aide 1. Work may include ELA practice such as writing or phonics.

Team 2 works at desks with curriculum with teacher and Aide 2. 

Lunch

11:45-12:15

Teacher lunch

Both Aides escort students to cafeteria to pick up lunch and return to class to eat.

12:15-12:35

Teacher runs lunch detention in class (if necessary.)

Both Aides take students to Quad for inclusion/social time, supervising for appropriate behavior. Designated students remain a specified lunch tables.

Period 5

Sustained Silent Reading 15 minutes

Ed Tech 30 minutes

This period also may be used for art projects, videos or special projects.

SSR All students choose books to read from class library.
Selected students from Team 2 have a Book Club. 

Teacher and Aide 2 listen to individual students read from chosen book.

Team 1 may join Aide 1 to read a selected book together at Station 1. 

Ed Tech

Students use assigned Chromebooks to use specified sites.

Code.org

Team 1 may also go to Coolmath.

Both aides will assist students to log on and monitor their progress.
Teacher will used period to asses individual students.

Period 6
PAES Lab

Teacher and Aides will escort students to the PAES Lab. Specific students will participate in the program while the remainder of the class received instruction in Careers and Executive Functioning. 

MTThF 2:20 Buses arrive. Teacher and Aides prepare students to get on bus.

W 1:20 Buses arrive. Teacher and Aides prepare students to get on bus.

Wednesdays during collaboration time, 1:20-2:30,
Teacher and Aides 
  1. complete training, 
  2. prepare curriculum, 
  3. and/or teacher and Aide 1 plan and prepare PAES Lab.
